Every day, we use our facial muscles to smile, frown, laugh, talk, and eat. As time passes, these repeated facial expression movements can cause crow’s feet and fine lines and wrinkles.
Are you seeking a simple, non-invasive way to smooth wrinkles and achieve your desired results?
BOTOX® is an ideal, non-surgical FDA-approved treatment derived from a botulinum toxin. It smooths fine lines and wrinkles, including the forehead lines and frown lines that develop from the natural aging process. A BOTOX® treatment temporarily takes years off your appearance and restores a more relaxed and pleasant expression.
How does BOTOX® work? It temporarily paralyzes the underlying muscle responsible for deep lines and facial wrinkles. When performed correctly, BOTOX® injections can improve the appearance of:
Safe and effective BOTOX® injections temporarily reduce expression lines around, between, and above the eyes (forehead), and temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and moderate to severe crow’s feet in adults.
While producing desired results for countless patients, botulinum toxin injections have also demonstrated a consistent safety record over the past 30-plus years.
Wrinkles result from multiple factors in combination—not simply because of cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage-causing free radicals. Daily facial expressions like smiles, frowns, laughs, and cries can lead to prominent lines around your mouth, eyes, and forehead. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
Fortunately, BOTOX®, a refined protein derived from botulinum toxin, offers a solution. BOTOX® works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time. By blocking communication between motor nerves and facial muscles, BOTOX® injections effectively relax the muscles, leading to a reduction in unwanted wrinkles. You can eliminate existing marks and prevent the formation of new ones with the transformative power of BOTOX®.
Your doctor will inject BOTOX® into the muscles that cause frown lines and crow’s feet lines, temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
A BOTOX® treatment can also resolve excessive sweating in the underarms, hands and or feet.
While no product allergy testing is required, BOTOX® injections are not advised during pregnancy or in patients with neuromuscular disorders.
In addition to the conditions BOTOX® has historically treated safely and effectively, new applications for BOTOX® injections have emerged.
Plastic surgeons and plastic surgery offices now use BOTOX® for the following cosmetic issues and functional problems:
In many cases, a BOTOX® treatment offers an effective, more convenient alternative to surgery for addressing a concern, while providing a natural-looking result.
In just 5 to 7 days, you will notice the effects of your BOTOX® injections, with the area looking smoother and more refreshed. At approximately 10 to 14 days, you will see the full effect of your BOTOX® injections.
Experience the full effects of your BOTOX® injections after just one month. While a minimal amount of movement may resurface in certain cases, the extent of this varies based on the treated area and individual response to the neurotoxin.
Be prepared for the effects of your BOTOX® treatments to gradually fade after about 3 to 6 months, with a return of movement. This is the perfect opportunity to schedule a follow-up treatment to refresh your look. While patients opt for maintenance injections every 3 to 4 months, regular use may allow you to extend the time between touch-up appointments.
For most patients, the recovery time for a BOTOX® treatment in West Palm Beach is generally minimal.
After receiving BOTOX® injectable treatments, most patients can resume their normal activities immediately without any downtime or recovery period — with no need to take time off work or school. This quick recovery time makes BOTOX® a convenient option for busy individuals.
Within the first few hours after a BOTOX® injection, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas. Furthermore, avoid lying down for at least four hours after the procedure to prevent the spreading of the toxin, which can result in bruising at the injection site.
You may experience minor side effects, such as temporary redness, swelling, or mild discomfort at the injection sites, which typically subside within a few hours to a couple of days.
To optimize the outcome of botulinum toxin injections and experience long-lasting results, follow the post-treatment care instructions provided by your plastic surgeon. These recommendations may include avoiding strenuous exercise or activities that induce excessive sweating for the first 24-48 hours after your BOTOX® procedure.
Your BOTOX® experience begins with an initial consultation, during which our patient counselor will listen to your concerns and desires with compassion, encourage realistic expectations, make recommendations based on your unique needs, and discuss BOTOX® cost.
BOTOX® cost varies, depending on how many units will be required in your treatment plan. Our patient counselor will answer all your questions about BOTOX® and ensure that you feel confident in your decision.

The answer depends on multiple factors, including the specific combination of procedures, your recovery rates, your age and health status, and your behaviors or habits. More invasive surgeries typically require recovery time ranging between 6 and 12 weeks to 6 months, and surgeries to the same area of your body will also generally require recovery time between procedures.
However, if you are in good health and the combination of procedures in question will be performed on different parts of your body and are not especially invasive, a combination of procedures could potentially be approved together on a case-by-case basis. It is imperative that the combination of procedures does not compromise your healing, and your attention to prescribed pre-operation and recovery habits also plays a significant role. Schedule a consultation for an assessment and guidance regarding the procedures you are considering.
While aging affects us all, there are steps we can take to put forth a more vibrant appearance. We seek to perform subtle adjustments to address imperfections and the wear of time while retaining your natural look. While you should notice an improvement, the glaring changes or distortions in appearance you are concerned about and may have seen from other surgeons’ work do not meet the standard of quality plastic and cosmetic surgery we perform in our office.
Dr. Frederic M. Barr is a board-certified Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon with over 30 years of experience performing Plastic Surgery in South Florida. We enhance and refine your appearance according to your goals. Review our Gallery of Before & After Photos to see some examples of our work.
For patients with Breast Implant Illness (BII), which can include allergy, auto-immune, and thyroid hormone issues, this has been an emerging topic with significant press coverage in recent years. Although numerous medical professionals have demonstrated varying responses to these women’s concerns, we believe in addressing these women’s experiences and symptoms. In response to this phenomenon, we have also chosen not to perform new breast implant surgeries. We perform Total Capsulectomy on patients with breast implants, which involves the removal of both the saline or silicone implant and the capsule around it.
Removal of the implants and surrounding scar tissue has been shown to improve women’s health concerning these symptoms. While some women choose no further procedure following Breast Explant Surgery, some patients elect to have a Mastopexy procedure that involves reshaping the breast tissue for a pleasant cosmetic breast appearance. We welcome your specific questions regarding these procedures and their anticipated effects for your situation. See our Breast Implant Explantation (Total Capsulectomy) page for more detailed information, including before-and-after photo examples.
We only utilize injectables and safe procedures for our patients, though any procedure involves some degree of risk. Proper performance and the surgeon's skills and experience performing the procedure are vital factors affecting patients’ safety. At Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, our surgeon is Board-Certified, with over 30 years of experience. We enforce a high standard to maintain safety for our clients and competitors. See our Injectable Procedures Overview for a list of injectable procedures and more information on each.
