Orange County resident and full-time property manager Marie Kolstad is making headlines; but it’s not her business deals that make this mother of 12 newsworthy. At 83 years old, Ms. Kolstad is just one of thousands of seniors who are undergoing cosmetic surgery to improve their looks in their golden years.

Ms. Kolstad underwent a three-hour operation for breast enlargement and a breast lift. “Physically, I’m in good health, and I just feel like, why not take advantage of it?” Ms. Kolstad told the New York Times. “My mother lived a long time, and I’m just taking it for granted that that will happen to me. And I want my children to be proud of what I look like.” According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were 84,685 surgical procedures among patients age 65 and older in 2010. Although Ms. Kolstad is an octogenarian, she certainly doesn’t feel 83, saying that when you age, “your breasts go in one direction and your brain goes in another.”
